It's partly having the strength to hold up an amount of weight equivalent to, well, what I weigh, but for the most part it's having a very good idea of where my center of gravity is and a knack for being able to position it directly over my support hand.
That and being able to hold myself still with good muscle control once I've gotten it right.
I'd like to see you do it in person someday. I should think that would be fascinating to watch.
[That's not even a come-on, she really is just interested.]
You've yet to show me your dancing skills, you know.
[And then, a moment later:] That's another legend, isn't it? The dancing, I mean, I'm almost certain that was a footnote in your thesis. Which isn't to say that's where your love of dancing comes from, but I've been rereading your thesis and looking up a fair few legends on kitsune on my own.
I'm charmed you've been looking into it, honestly.
You're right, though. It's usually in tandem with a kitsune drinking, actually — drink, revelry, and so on — and because of it, they get careless while in human shape and their tails pop out.
. . . I do wonder what would happen if you got drunk, though. If it would trigger a memory, I mean. We do know you had tails; perhaps that happened to you.
I don't deny that, but it also potentially involves a tail of mine popping out.
...
Or the possibility of me acting like that again. What you said you saw those few times, when you took the mirror and the other. Doesn't it follow logically that there's the possibility of that happening again?
Yes. And it may well, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I should think I'd be more than able to handle you when you're intoxicated, if Youko is inclined immediately towards violence, which he might not be.
I am interested in everyone's other lives, that's a fact. Ardyn alone could tell you how many times I've quizzed him over his memories. But the fact that I'm close to you, and feel a great deal of affection for you, motivates me further.
[Pause.]
And the fact that I'd much rather pondering over other people's parallel selves than think of my own.
[Especially now, especially with what she'd just gotten back. It isn't even the conversation that unnerves her, not really, but . . . it's such a mess of emotions that she feels when she thinks about it.]
[There's a sort of awkward pause here, and then the subsequent follow-up comes hot on the heels of that: ]
Ridiculous as it might sound, I think I'd be a little jealous if you ended up finding yourself more fascinated with who I once was than who I am, myself.
Ah. No, there's little chance of that. Or rather, I should say: while Youko may be of interest to me on a purely scientific level, it's you I'm eager to talk to.
And while we're not yet at the point where we can enjoy ourselves drunkenly together, I admit there's a bit of personal motivation in wanting to see you in such a state.

Good god, I forgot how flexible you are. Tell me you didn't topple over afterwards.

That wasn't an answer.

[She hesitates, and then:]
The kitsune doth protest too much, as they say.
Really, though: how on earth are you able to maintain your balance one-handed like that?

That and being able to hold myself still with good muscle control once I've gotten it right.

[Hmmm.]
I suppose what I'm trying to ask is, is it solely intellectual curiosity, that has you so interested in whatever it is I used to be...?
no subject
No. Not entirely.
[Pause.]
